A masonry & restoration practice working on pre-war brownstones, landmarked facades, and historic interiors across Manhattan and Brooklyn. Lime-mortar, hand-cut stone, brass & iron — the way it was done.
Est. 2008
Most of our projects involve more than one of these. Our office handles the coordination, permits, and Landmarks paperwork.
Hand-cut limestone, brownstone, terracotta, brick. Repointing in historically correct lime-mortar — not the wrong-Portland that crumbles your stone.
Settled stoops, missing balusters, lost cornices, deteriorating ironwork. We rebuild from photographs and original drawings when needed.
Wood double-hung sash repair, weatherstripping, weight-and-pulley rebuilds. Save the original glass — it's irreplaceable.
Original railings, gates, hardware. Stripping, restoring, and refinishing — or recasting where the original is past saving.
Slate, copper, lead-coated copper, terra-cotta tile. Chimney repointing, flashing, restoration to original spec.
Permit filings, MOAR submissions, hearing prep. We've worked on certificate-of-appropriateness applications for over a decade.
Halcyon was founded in 2008 around a simple idea: NYC's pre-war buildings were built by craftsmen, and they deserve to be repaired by craftsmen — not by general contractors who learned masonry from YouTube last quarter.
Our crews are small. Our specifications are specific. And we will tell you when your building doesn't need the work you came in asking about.
Halcyon restored the entire south facade of our 1887 Italianate. They worked with our Landmarks application from the very first sketch, used historically appropriate lime-mortar throughout, and delivered the project two weeks ahead of schedule. Their crew left our building looking better than it has in fifty years.Margaret L. RosenBoard President · Brooklyn Heights co-op
